Toxic Mold

Mold is caused by water damage, such as plumbing leaks, roof leaks and window leaks. It can develop in 24 to 48 hours if the source of that water damage is not corrected, and the water damaged materials are not removed or dried.

Symptoms of mold exposure can be both allergic and toxic, and include:

  • Watery red eyes
  • Headache
  • Cough
  • Allergies
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest pain
  • Asthma
  • Bloody noses
  • Runny nose
  • Joint pain
  • Fatigue
  • Skin rash
  • Prolonged cold & flu-like symptoms

Roaches

Roaches can exist in a rental, even with good housekeeping. They live in wall and ceiling cavities and come out at night to hunt for food and water. Roaches are harmful. They carry all types of bacteria, cause allergies and can even bite.

Rats / Mice

Rats and mice can also cause a variety of illnesses and carry harmful viruses (including hantavirus). They also have bacteria in their urine and droppings and carry ticks and fleas.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs can invade and contaminate not only your beds, but also your other belongings, including couches and clothing. They are extremely small and difficult to get rid of. Bed bugs can bite, they trigger allergies, and their bites can become infected.

Lead Paint

Lead based paint can exist in the interior and on the exterior of a rental, particularly those built before 1978. Chipping and flaking paint can be accidentally ingested, particularly by young children. Lead can cause severe and irreversible organ damage, including brain damage.
